You may be interested in knowing that in the Auburn section, the logo that looks like a large 'A' with the bottom right portion of the 'A' being made up of an eagle head is used only by the university band.

You see, Auburn is the tigers but they chant "War Eagle". There's some old story about an eagle flying over the stadium at a game once, but I'm not too familiar with it. But they do have an eagle at every home game that they let fly around the stadium while everyone chants "war eagle".

- Matt M.

Here's the deal about Auburn and their little "War Eagle" chant/battle cry. Early 1900's in one of the very first meetings between Auburn and Georgia (The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry), Auburn trailed by a significant amount of pionts heading to the fourth quarter. At that time, an eagle began to fly in cirlces around the stadium. Auburn came back, and won the game on the final drive. A newspaper journalist used the term, and it stuck.

Auburn
AUM is officially the Senators. They were named in honor of a Senator Goodwyn who pushed through the legislation that created the school. Years later, the student body felt that orange and brown were ugly colors and that the name Senators was outdated. They wanted to change the colors to silver and teal and the mascot to the Mustangs. In order to please both students and alumni, the school came up with the solution of having all the colors, retaining the Senators name but using the Mustang on the logo.
