I'm sending a scan I made of an old bumper sticker of mine. This is an Akron Vulcans' logo, who were a team tabbed to play in the Continental Football League in 1967. Note the the A and V form the shape of a football. It is eeerily similar to the Tennessee Titans' logo isn't it? The Vulcans only played one pre-season game at Akron's Rubber Bowl vs the Orlando Panthers. Then they folded. Their owner was a con-man who then took off with all the ticket receipts and the FBI caught him and arrested him in Youngstown, OH. Weird story. The Akron Police shut the team down and confiscated their uniforms and the team folded before playing a reg. season game. I've saved the sticker since I was a kid. To the best of my recollection, I on behalf of the Cleveland Bulldogs scouted a Continental Football League pre-season game between the Akron Vulcans and Indianapolis at Niles, Ohio high school stadium in August of 1961. I am almost certain that the Cleveland Bulldogs were members of that league during at least 1961 and 1962. Jamie Caleb was a running back for the Bulldogs for part of that period. His contract was sold by the Bulldogs to the Cleveland Browns for $5000(?). Thereafter he played for the Browns for a year or two. -Frank U. |
